The Derm Group participates with most health plans. Please see our insurance participants for a detailed list of insurance companies.

Does insurance cover the treatment I may receive from The Derm Group?

Insurance coverage varies by treatment you may receive, but most insurance plans cover general dermatology procedures.

What is a co-payment?

A co-payment is a payment defined by your insurance policy and is paid each time a medical service is rendered. Often times your insurance company will print the co-payment amount on the front of the insurance card. Dermatology is classified as a specialty service by your health insurance, and may result in a higher co-payment. The Derm Group requires that the co-payment be paid at the time of service.

Are cosmetic dermatology procedures covered by insurance?

Cosmetic dermatology procedures are typically deemed not medically necessary by insurance carriers, and are not likely to be covered. Our staff will assist you in determining which services are covered.

How often should I see a dermatologist?

You should visit your dermatologist at least once each year for a thorough skin examination. If you have issues between your yearly visits, such as acne, suspicious areas that do not heal, or a rash, you should see your dermatologist immediately. Many skin conditions can be treated easily with a dermatologist’s diagnosis and treatment.

Is there a safe way to tan?

There is no safe way to tan. Tanning occurs when damaging ultra violet rays enter the skin.

Will sunscreen keep me from getting enough vitamin D?

Although it is important to get some sunshine to help produce vitamin D, most people get enough even when wearing sunscreen. If you are concerned that you are not getting enough vitamin D, ask your doctor what you should do to get more. There are safe ways to get enough vitamin D that do not increase your risk for skin cancer.

When should I use sunscreen?

Because skin cancer results from cumulative exposure to UV rays, you should use sunscreen every day, all year around, on sunny and cloudy days. You should use sunscreen whether you’re planning to be in the sun for very short or extended periods.

Will my mole or lesion be removed at my first visit?

Your provider will evaluate your lesion and if possible we will try to perform the removal that day, but depending on the diagnosis and treatment options, you might need to schedule another appointment.
