Can you believe we are already in November? This is the time of year stores fill the air with pumpkin spices, hay bales and corn stalks decorate doorways, and the endless planning goes into the perfect Thanksgiving meal.
November is also considered National Healthy Skin Month by the American Academy of Dermatology. It’s a great opportunity to take a better look at our bodies to see what it is telling us about our overall health. One feature that may be more obvious than others is our eyelids. Sure, you may be losing a little sleep these days, but if you always have drooping eyelids and eyebags, it may be more than just the season weighing on you.
Do I Need an Eye Lift?
Blepharoplasty, or an eye lift, is a great way to freshen your appearance, awaken your look, and even improve eye sight. It’s a type of cosmetic surgery that removes excess skin from the upper eyelids and reduces bagginess from the lower lids. That hanging down of the upper lid can make it difficult to see clearly and the excess skin on the lower eyelids can cause wrinkles under the eye.
As we age, our eyelids, among everything else, tend to lose elasticity and sag. When that elasticity is lost, the thin membrane that holds the fat in place around the eyeball begins to weaken, allowing that fat to bulge forward in the same way a hernia does. This is why you sometimes see puffiness under the eyes of people as they age.
Can Blepharoplasty Get Rid of Under-Eye Bags?
Yes, an eye lift can really help the appearance of drooping or sagging eyelids. However, if you are looking to remove dark circles, wrinkles, or crow’s feet, you’ll need to talk to your dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon. You’d be better suited to combine blepharoplasty with laser resurfacing, filler injections like BOTOX or even a forehead or facelift. Most importantly, you need to be realistic about your goals. There is no magic fountain of youth, but you will get amazing results that will take years off your face, make it easier to see, and help with your self-esteem.
